Facts about Wyoming County

Wyoming County was formed in 1842 and derives its name from an Indian word meaning "Extensive Meadows." Located in the northeast corner of Pennsylvania, Wyoming County combines the rural splendor of the Endless Mountains with the beauty of the meandering Susquehanna River, all within easy reach of many metropolitan areas. Breath taking scenery, friendly folks , low crime rates, housing selections with good investment values, and excellent educational facilities make Wyoming County a great place to live and work.

Agriculturally Wyoming County has a little of everything, the emphasis being dairy farming and related enterprises. The rich loamy soils along the river produce high yielding corn grain and alfalfa crops. The majority of the county's crop production is grass hay and corn silage. There are also several small orchard, vegetable, and nursery operations and a variety of livestock enterprises. The forest products industry is a major component utilizing the valuable hardwood forests in the county.
